Ancient voyagers found their way using the North Star. Earth's north pole points in Polaris' direction to designate TRUE NORTH.
Yet, if a modern explorer or pilot use a magetic compass they encounter another north MAGNETIC NORTH. TRUE NORTH is in motion due to the uneven rotation of the earth's axis, MAGNETIC NORTH is in motion due to the magnetic fields generated by things deep within the earth.
Modern navigators have created GRID NORTH to make sense of these variations in directional authority. Uneven motion, influence from things deep within, made up standards...sounds like the human condition.
When we need direction we need a compass that is not influenced by irregularities of human existence....we need Christ as our Compass.
